Our modern society and lifestyle are both highly dependent on the use of chemicals. That is why there are so many chemical substances on the market.

Many of these substances are however suspected of having unwanted or unknown effects on our health and the environment. A common European regulation is in place to ensure the safe use of these potentially harmful products.

The EU Chemical Act, REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) took effect on June 1, 2007.

The purpose of the Act is to safeguard people and the environment by ensuring the proper documentation of the numerous chemicals in use within the EU. The main principle of REACH is “no data – no sale”, which means that the ‘onus of proof’ lies with the industry sector itself.
