Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) in the Oil & Gas Industry
Did you know that bio-corrosion constitutes 20-50% of corrosion-related failures in process systems? In this course, you get to know more about the microbial corrosion mechanisms causing these problems. You learn how to identify microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and more importantly, how to prevent and mitigate this integrity issue. The course will address:
- Short introduction to general microbiology and oil field microbiology
- Classical and new approaches of microbiological monitoring
- What is microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC)?
- Microbial corrosion mechanisms
- Assessment and mitigation of MIC
- Discussion of selected field cases
Furthermore, the aim of this course is to give you insight into the newest developments regarding MIC assessment and learn how best to prevent and mitigate biofilm and general microbial growth in up- and downstream installations. The format is a mix of lectures, theoretical exercises and round-table discussions.
Participants: This course is aimed at operators, corrosion and chemistry engineers with an interest in microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). This course is essential for those responsible for integrity of oilfield systems. Maximum 12 attendees.
