Sustainable Construction Site - Energy-efficient moisture management in the construction process
Project start February 2013. Completed February 2015.
Summary
The project was supported by ELFORSK and comprised five partners. The project’s main goal was to enable energy saving at the Danish construction sites in connection with the drying of building structures in the construction process. For that, a web app that integrates energy-efficient drying technologies for use on construction sites was developed. During the project, a new drying method based on heating cables and permeable insulation was developed. These items together enable heating the moist construction while reducing heat losses. The developed drying method was demonstrated in two refurbishment projects, and it showed interesting perspectives for accelerated drying techniques. In addition, extensive air change measurements at the testing construction site in Copenhagen were conducted, giving valuable input to the project. The web app highlights appropriate and inappropriate choices regarding drying of building structures, creating a better understanding of their impact on the energy consumption in the construction process.
