Heat Pump Laboratory
Our Heat Pump Laboratory has some of the most advanced test facilities in the world which enable the unique testing of the efficiency, performance and sound power level of a heat pump at the same time and at different climate conditions. We offer a wide range of testing services of air conditioners and heat pumps; Air/air heat pumps, air/water heat pumps, liquid/water heat pumps and domestic hot water heat pumps.
The Heat Pump Laboratory with an area of 700 m2 comprises e.g. four climate chambers and other state-of-the-art test facilities, where we are able to test heat pumps with a capacity up to 40 kW.
Accredited test laboratory
Our laboratory is accredited by both ILAC, the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, and DANAK, the Danish Accreditation and Metrology Fund, (ISO/IEC 17025) to carry out tests according to internationally recognized accreditation standards.
Our test facilities comply with the latest EU regulations and requirements and they are accredited to measure SCOP (seasonal Coefficient of Performance). SCOP sets the standards for the minimum requirements and energy labelling requirements for heat pumps in Europe.
We are accredited to test according to the following standards:
- EN 14511 - testing of heat pumps and air conditioners
- EN 16147 - testing of domestic hot water heat pumps
- EN 14825 - measurement of SCOP
- EN 12102 - measurement of sound power level
In addition, our Heat Pump Laboratory is a certified EHPA test center, which means that we are able to test heat pumps according to the standards and requirements of the European Heat Pump Association.

Unique testing of sound power level
In 2013, the Heat Pump Laboratory was expanded with two highly advanced climate chambers, each chamber is 100 m3. These two climate chambers enable us to test the efficiency, performance and sound power level of a heat pump at the same time and at different climate conditions.
Our test facilities also allow us to test the efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps under realistic conditions similar to the units' actual conditions. During testing, one of the chambers simulates the outdoor climate of the heat pump's outdoor unit and the other chamber simulates the indoor climate, where the heat and energy are used. In the outdoor climate chamber, the temperature can range from -25 °C to 50 °C. This means that we can test heat pumps under conditions equivalent to the European weather over a year, including during defrosting.

Refrigeration and Heat Pump Laboratory
The Heat Pump Laboratory is a part of our state-of-the-art Refrigeration and Heat Pump Laboratory which also comprises three other laboratories:
Our laboratories play a significant role in developing new design and technology and we cover all phases from development and construction to the final product. Our professional foundation is among others our expert competencies in refrigeration and heat pump technology and solar energy as well as a wide range of engineering disciplines including fluid dynamics, CFD calculations, heat transfer, turbo machinery, PV systems, energy optimization etc. Moreover, our specialists have in-depth knowledge about EU legislation on ecodesign and energy labelling requirements as well as Energy Star requirements.
We cooperate with e.g. authorities, manufacturers and importers and we participate in R&D projects aiming at improving technology, designs and products. If you have an idea for a R&D project or want to participate in one, please contact us for further information.
